Burgess & Leigh

Burleigh 4752 Florentine VaseCharlotte’s work for Burgess & Leigh (or Burleigh Ware as it was known) is comparatively hard to find these days and the rarer items (such as the wall plaques) sell for significant amounts. For the first time, her name began to appear on mainstream pieces, with ‘L Rhead’ (the L was for Lottie), being a tubelined version of her signature. She will have added this herself in the early days, but as time went on, her paintresses would have done it on her behalf. Four figure pattern numbers were also added, along with the initial mark of the individual decorator. The list of patterns below comes from the Bernard Bumpus book.
